1925 August 4 PRATT, Alexander Joseph. Birth mother was Susan Pratt & birth father was Joseph (?) Taylor. Raised by the Langilles family. Alexander passed away in 1981 but his granddaughter is searching for birth family members.
1932-33 HUNT, BABY BOY. Son of Viola Stella Hunt (deceased). Search initiated by only birth sister. Mother was living in New Brunswick and went to Nova Scotia. Child was described as having blue eyes and blond curly hair. It is possible that the adoption may have been finalized in Moncton or Fredericton, New Brunswick.
1933 July 6 BABY GIRL now known as June LeBlanc. Birth name unknown. Her adoptive parents (father was a WWI vet) cared for sick babies from the Ideal Maternity Home. She had 4 siblings from the IMH - two boys (1939 or 1940) who eventually died, then a set of twins - one of whom died on or about December 14, 1941. June also has other siblings who came from the IMH. June lives in Nova Scotia.

1935 May 18 KIPPER, Dolly Anita Mae now known as Marion Oakley. Daughter of Ada Kipper. Marion was told of her adoption when a teen and is searching for her birth mother. She is interested in finding out family medical history as well as genealogical information so that her children and grandchildren can learn more about their heritage. She presently lives in Nova Scotia.
1935 November 9 BROWN, Kenneth Victor now known as William Victor Goucher. Bill died in 1973, but his daughter continues to search for his birth parents and her grandparents. She presently lives in Nova Scotia.
1936 May 7 MACDONALD, Kathleen Elizabeth Ann now known as Jane Cannings. Daughter of Amelia MacDonald of Merigomish, NS. She lived with her adoptive family since infancy but wasn't adopted until she was older. Jane lives in Nova Scotia.
1936 July 23 RAND, Robert Jerome. Lived at the IMH with birthmother until age 6 when mother disappeared. An aunt visited for a few years & then she placed him in an orphanage where he remianed until age 16. Never adopted. Robert's son is searching for birth family members.
1936 December 4 MACDONALD, Harlon now known as Vincent Gaul, Jr. Son of Helen Christine MacDonald of Merigomish, Pictou County, NS. The agreement of adoption was signed Jan 31, 1938 and also was signed by Robert Stewart; in the presence of a Mrs. JR MacDonald. Vincent lives in Nova Scotia.
1937 JENNING, Rose Marie now known as Marie Robicheau. Marie remained at the Ideal Maternity Home for 1.5 years. She has multiple medical problems and is searching for information of her birth family. Marie lives in Nova Scotia.

1937 June 1 KERR, Murray now known as Raymond Schnare. Raymond grew up in Nova Scotia and the family had his name changed legally in 1980/81. He has a sister who is also a survivor of the IMH. He is not personally involved in the search, but his daughter is searching on his behalf for her grandparents. Raymond lives in Nova Scotia.

1939 - 1941 TRACY, BABY GIRL. Daughter of Jean Avis Moore, nee Tracy from McAdam, New Brunswick. This search is for a baby girl born possibly between 1939 - 1941. The mother married in 1941 and had red hair. (Sibling search).
1939 February 23 WITT, Kathleen Elizabeth now known as Vivian Schnare. Daughter of Ruth (or Florence) Witt, from Soap Lake, Washington. She was actively searching for information about her birth family until she passed away on April 7, 2000 without completing her search. Vivian's story is included in the book, 'Butterbox Survivors'.
1939 March 2 DOWNIE, Frank now known as William Holmes. Son of Marjorie Downie and Wilfred (Lund) Cole from New Germany, N.S. Bill lives in Massachusetts and is searching for birth family and medical information.
1939 June 19 BAKER, Vernon Kenneth now known as Lloyd Zwicker. Lloyd is searching for information of his birth family and is presently living in Nova Scotia.
1940 April 18 BABY GIRL, now known as Gloria Stolze. Gloria has found her birth mother and sibling and is searching for information about her birth father, possibly J. Cahill. Gloria also has reason to believe that she is a twin. Gloria's address is presently unknown.
1940 July 7 EISENHAUER, Faith Lu Tanya. Daughter of Violet Eisenhauer. Violet was a married lady who went to the Ideal Maternity Home to have her baby. The healthy 8 lb. baby was nursed by Violet during her stay at the IMH. On the eve their departure, Violet was visited by Mrs. Young, holding a child that she claimed was Violet's daughter. She stood in the shadows and told her that the baby had taken ill but would not bring the baby close to her. In the morning when Violet's husband and parents arrived to take Violet and the baby home, Mrs. Young told them that the baby had died during the night. Mrs. Young told them that the baby had turned black and could not be viewed. The baby was placed in a Butterbox and the lid was screwed shut (not nailed as was usually done) and was buried, never having been seen by the family. It was said that there was someone visiting the Home in search of a baby girl but Violet's daughter was the only girl in the nursery at that time. Violet never saw her daughter again but never believed that the child died that night. She still holds hope that her daughter is alived and will one day find out who she is and come home to her. In December 1997, the Justice Dept. finally gave approval and the grave was exhumed. Unfortunately, there was insufficient evidence with which to do DNA tests. Violet passed away in 2002 without ever knowing for certain, the whereabouts of her daughter.

1941 March 2 MCCULLY, Joan Frances now known as Joan Lazell. Joan's birth mother was from Truro, N.S. & was between the ages of 15-17 at the time of her birth. Her father was in the Blackwatch. Joan found her sister and cousin in May, 2012. She is still searching for information on her paternal birth family. Joan is presently living in New Jersey.

1941 October 31 FITZMAURICE, Beverley now known as Jean Siddall. Daughter of Edith Fitzmaurice. Jean comes from a family of nine (three died in infancy) from the IMH. Of the nine, she was the only fortunate one to have adoption papers and know her birth name. Jean is searching for information on her birth family and lives in New Brunswick.
1941 November 9 PAYNTER, Lorraine now known as Lorraine MacDonald. Lorraine is searching for information on her birth family. Following some leads, Lorraine has discovered that there was a Nelson Paynter in Long River, PEI in 1941 and also a Leslie Paynter from Clifton, PEI in 1941. Leslie Paynter had a daughter, Christine, who married Francis Paynter. They lived in Kensington and had 6 children. Lorraine lives in Nova Scotia.
1941 November 27 WEBB, Geraldine Rose now known as Gail Juteau. Daughter of Jane Webb. Gail was adopted in April of 1942 and is searching for information on her birth family and for medical information. Gail passed away in 2001 without succeeding in her search.

1942 February 26 BAIN, Lila Ann now known as Catherine McCurdy. Catherine is searching for information on her birth and her adoption. She was baptized in Montreal in November 1942 with Dr. Young as the one witness present. The baptism record makes mention of a Judgement in Quebec and there is some question regarding the legality of the adoption. Catherine lives in British Columbia.
1942 March 5 ENGLAND, Olga Lorraine now known as Gloria Cox. Daughter of Helen Jean England (age 33 years) from O'Leary, PEI. Her birth mother was born June 26, 1910 and died in 1967. She lived with her sister in Halifax. Gloria is searching for information on her birth father, whose possible last name was MAYHEW/MAYHEM. Gloria lives in Nova Scotia.

1942 June 30 MACLEAN, Yvonne Marie now known as Marilyn Reeves. Daughter of Elmira M MacLean of Pictou County, N.S. Another possibility of birth mother is Yvonne Marie Maclean. She was adopted in March of 1943 and is searching for medical information. Marilyn lives in Nova Scotia.
1942 July 14 GREGORY, Jerry Malcolm. Jerry's mother's first name was Gloria.He has one adoptive sibling, also from the IMH who is interested in finding his birth family.
Jerry died in an auto accident January 31, 1969.

1942 August 1 GILLIS, Murray James raised as Mickey (Murray James) Timmins. Birth father was Angus Gillis (mentioned on page 47 of the original Butterbox Babies book and on page 53 of the updated edition). Mickey passed away in 2000 but his family is searching for Angus Gillis & family.
1942 August 11 MOMBOURQUETTE, Joseph now known as Joe Bellefontaine. Born to May Mombourqette (spelled by birth mother, MAUBOURQUETTE) Birth mother was a 39 year old single teacher, who gave birth at the Grace Maternity, Halifax, N.S. Joe was then placed for adoption and remained at the Ideal Maternity Home for 16 months until adopted. Reunited with his birth mother (now deceased) in 1994. Joe's search continues for birth father and siblings.

1943 February 6 MOUNSTEPHEN, Robert Sterling now known as Robet Norse. Son of Mildred Grace Mounstephen, from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Birth mother was 22 years old at the time of his birth and married at the time. Robert was 1 year old when adopted in Fredericton, NB. He has a strawberry birthmark on his leg. Some initial contacts have been made with some members of the Mounstephen family in Thunder Bay but nothing conclusive has come out of that, yet. Robert lives in Nova Scotia.

1943 May 24 RUTHERFORD, Franklin Thomas (twin). Searching for twin brother (see below). Son of Mary Ellen Steward and Robert Rutherford. Placed with and raised by William and Ruby Horton of Danvers in the fall of 1945. These twins were born at the Halifax Infirmary and taken to the Ideal Maternity Home. Adoption never finalized. Tom Rutherford lived in Ontario. He passed away in 2017.

Anne’s adoption was arranged by Frank Davis the Provincial Health Minister, and her adoption was completed at the Hotel Nova Scotian in Halifax, NS. Anne is living in Texas, USA.

1944 August 15 CARON, Claude now known as Stuart Satsky. Son of Jeanette Caron (possibly from Ontario). Stuart was raised in Newark, New Jersey and is searching for information about his birth family. Stuart passed away in 2005. His family resides in Colorado.

1945 June 13 MACLAUGHLIN, Harry Edward now known as Robert Hirtle. Son of Audrey MacLaughlin and adopted as Robert Hirtle. He was born in Halifax and taken to the Ideal Maternity Home for adoption. 1946 May 21 CLANCEY, Daniel George now known as Donald Davis. Birth mother was Doreen Clancey. Adopted by Jewish couple from Brooklyn & grew up in Queens, NY.Don has been married since 1969, has 2 sons & 1 granddaughter, and is presently living in Lemon Grove, California.
1946 June 3 SWEENEY, George now known as Howard Cooper. Howard was adopted by a Jewish couple from New York. He was reunited with his mother, and is now searching for information on his birth father, Tommy Tomkins, from Woodstock New Brunswick who was a pilot stationed in Yarmouth in 1945. Howard is currently living in Louisiana.
1946 August 18 AMERO, Ina May now known as Joy (Mittleman) Delin. Daughter of Ruby Jane Amero and Richard Comeau. Joy was adopted by the Mittleman family living in New York State. The attorney involved was Irving B. Cohen, and the adoption was finalized in Surrogate's Court, King's County, New York. Joy is searching for information about her birth family, and presently lives in New York.
1947 January 16 HARRIMAN, Dannah Rae. Daughter of Anne E. Harriman of Moncton, NB. Power of attorney to Dr. and Lila Young, signed January 17, 1947. It is implied in correspondence from Lila Young that the father (unidentified) was a RCMP Officer. *note: The Ideal Maternity Home was now closed, but Lila Young looked after this case as part of her "Private Practice" which she began after the IMH was closed.
